About the Abhiyaas Festival

Cultural heritage comprises the values and traditions that have been passed down through generations. It represents a shared sense of identity within a society or community. This heritage connects our present to our past—a dynamic past that at times strengthens our unity and at other times challenges it.

Cultural heritage can be classified into two broad categories: Tangible heritage—such as buildings, books, monuments, landscapes, and manuscripts.

Intangible heritage—such as music, rituals, dance, festivals, and art forms that we experience and live.

India’s cultural diversity is vividly reflected in its classical dance forms, for instance:

  1. 1. Kathak in Uttar Pradesh
  2. 2. Odissi and Mayurbhanj Chhau in Odisha
  3. 3. Manipuri in Manipur
  4. 4. Sattriya in Assam
  5. 5. Bharatanatyam in Tamil Nadu and Kathakali in Kerala
  6. 6. Kuchipudi in Andhra Pradesh

And many other unique styles are found across different states of the country.

Cultural experiences are not merely to be observed—they are to be lived, felt, and internalized. This lived experience gives our heritage its true strength and vitality.

“Abhiyash” was one such endeavor—a sincere initiative to explore how we can connect with our culture and engage the youth with it. The four-day Abhiyash series was organized with this very aim and was successfully conducted at Space Performing Arts, Noida.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Sangeet Natak Akademi, and also to our mentors and all the artists involved, whose support and dedication made this event a success.

Our efforts will continue in the same spirit—to deepen our connection with culture and help others experience its richness.
